Mosspit

Below is a story prompt I wrote during a brainstorm for a Game Jam. It is inspired by mechs, loving the forest, and looking for peace in the far reaches of space. Also, the mech's name is Mosspit:

You are an intergalactic biologist working for the Galactic Federation. After years of lab work, you have finally been promoted to Field Agent and assigned your first mission. A planet hospitable to plant life was detected by a Federation Scout, and you are to travel to this far away planet and document the local flora, collect samples, and report back to the Galactic Capital. It will be your first time leaving your home galaxy, and you'll be far from the eyes of the Federation. For safety and protection, you travel there by mech. You know you're close when you can make out the three moons orbiting the vibrant green planet. Eden. Could the surface be as abundant with life as the reports say? You've waited your whole life for this moment. It is pulling you in, welcoming you into its neon glow. As gravity embraces your mech, your start to enter the atmosphere. The pulling sensation tightens, then turns into a tug. Your mech starts tumbling, head over heels towards Eden. The stabilization unit is not responding. As your velocity increases, the thick atmosphere rips your mech apart, limb by limb. Thrusters, rations, radios, and science equipment are hurled into the air, scattering to the ground below. Following emergency protocol, you eject in an escape pod, watching the metal frame of your only way home disappear into the dense fog below. Soon you too, are enveloped in the fog, bracing for the inevitable impact. You wake up covered in moss and lichen. What seemed like fog from space is actually a dense pollen. It fills the air, you can't help but breathe it in. The sensation of spores in your lungs is intoxicating. Eden is humming, for the first time, you feel alive. The mission, your mech, the Federation, all feel inconsequential. Why would you want to leave? You need this garden all to yourself. The allure of Eden urges you forward, to discover its secrets.
